Your mornings are a crucial time for shaping the outcome of your upcoming day. And the great news is: it’s 100% within your power to make each day a great day in the way you choose and start your day with more confidence.

The most successful people know that the way you start your day makes a difference to every aspect of your life. These morning moments set the tone for your day, either giving you a boost to a productive, fulfilling day ahead or throwing you off course. It’s important to take the steps that put you in the right direction from the start.

You need to create your own morning routine that will work for your life. This approach will help you get into the right mindset each day to make the best decisions for creating the life you love and start your day with more confidence.

I just love this, which is why I’ve included it again. Take a moment to think about it in comparison to your mornings. The alarm goes off, how do you feel? Are you eager to start your day or setting the snooze button for five more minutes? If our mornings don’t remind us that we have a purpose and value to give-we are less likely to begin our day with joy. Instead we could mindlessly follow a routine of getting up and getting out of the house. Is your morning about chores, getting other people ready and getting out the door? Or a nourishing routine that you look forward to? The secret to start your day with confidence and excitement.

Here are 7 activities to do first thing in the morning to start your day with confidence.

Get Up Early

There’s a lot of talk about successful people getting up early-just how early really depends on your lifestyle and other commitments. However, I’m a big believer in getting up early enough to have some time for you before the rest of the house wakes up and starts making demands on your time and/or you need to rush out the door. It’s like getting a head start on your day. I’ve written about how I use that time in my morning routine post here. There’s a few other ideas below.

Make Your Bed

This might seem like a strange tip to include, but there are reasons this helps you start your day with more confidence. Here’s just a couple.

  1. It’s a quick win. You start every day by accomplishing a task. The task itself is beneficial and in addition, it encourages to you continue completing tasks throughout the day.
  2. It starts to declutter you space and this reduces stress. You can create a calm space, which will help you have a feeling of control.

Use Affirmations

Using affirmations is great for a confidence boost and are often used to help you reach your goals. They can help you deal with negative feelings about yourself and take positive action. When you repeat an affirmation, it begins to seep into your brain that those affirmations might be true, so it helps to gradually chase away your negativity. This is something that takes continual practice and you might decide to make this part of your morning routine, before your brain has had a chance to be filled with anything else!

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.  They help increase self-reliance, help you take action with your life and build self-confidence and self-esteem.

Expand your Mind

This could be listening to a podcast, listening to an audio book or read a good old fashioned book. Spending some time on yourself in this way will help make you feel valued. This quotation from Medium.com sums it up:

To improve our lives we must: 1) invest time in learning, 2) maximize our learning experiences, and 3) not waste time on things that will set us back from accomplishing our goals.

Use this time listen or read something to bring you closer to achieving your goal. There are many, many options for this and it depends on what you are working towards; here’s a list of podcasts and motivational books to get you started.

Exercise

You know how important exercise is for your physical health, including weight loss and for heart health. But how about exercise for your mind and mental health: regular exercise can reduce stress, boost happiness and also boost self-confidence. Therefore add exercise to your morning routine to start your day off with a feeling of success.

Dress for Your Day

What you wear could either boost your mood or bring it down. Studies show that dressing well, positively affects the way you think about yourself. You feel more authoritative, powerful, trustworthy and competent. Dress in something you feel confident in and that alone will give you motivation for the day ahead. Include jewellery, a little make up and perfume in this too, why not?!

Plan your Day

I saw this quote that said “anything is possible for those with a dream, a plan, and the determination to make it happen…no matter what. We’ve discussed elsewhere that being confident is about being in control, so this includes being in control of your day. A way you could do this is ask yourself questions

  1. What do I want to accomplish today?
  2. How do I want to feel, as I go through the day?

 It puts you in control of your day, it makes each day purposeful and it helps you make each day a success. To stay in control as you go through the day, have regular times when you check in with your plan, to see if you need to adjust.
