It seems to be the culture these days, that everyone is more and more busy. Diaries have to be full, who can get their Christmas decorations up first and elaborate plans to celebrate. Let’s stop the glorification of busy. Let’s slow down and enjoy the hear and now. This will mean and healthier and happier way of living, especially at this already busy time of year. We are so busy, running around with hectic social calendars, getting the house and family ready for Christmas, we need to remember to look after ourselves first.

So how do we do this?

Self care is the activities and rituals we do to protect and improve our health and wellbeing. It is not indulgent or selfish. It is an absolute must to reduce stress and help you relax and unwind from the daily pressures of life. People approach things differently, some might prefer to be active, others to snuggle with a book or anything in between. Self care can fall into three categories, mind, body and soul. The three are very much connected however and some activities may fall into more than one category. By carrying out activities from each category you can ensure each area of your life is enriched.

Mind-do you ever feel like your brain has too many tabs open? That there’s lots buzzing around in your head and you just want to calm the noise.

Body-do you drink enough water? Get fresh air every day? Eat a nutritious meal? Get enough sleep?

Soul-need a boost to your mood and happiness?

I have made a commitment that for the month of December I’m going to include three self-care activities in to my day each and every day. It would be fantastic if you join me. To make things even easier I have created a sheet that you can download with ideas for mind, body and soul. What I found when creating this is some activities fall into more than one category, so don’t get too hung up on this. Although I have included numbers down the side, this is just to give you a framework if you wish-you can mix and match to suit your day and passions. The important aspect of the challenge is to complete #3forme activities every day. To keep myself accountable I aim to check in to the Facebook group every day and let you know how I am taking care. My ideal would be to get a whole community of people that make sure they take some time out for them every day; to value themselves and feel happy and healthy. Who doesn’t want that?

Take care and hope to see you in the group!
